Subject: The Plundering of Ancient Egypt

Lecturer: Cheda Panajotovic

As soon as the great and the good of ancient Egypt were buried, there were those who greatly coveted the precious objects that were buried along with them. Details of what was to be found and where it could be found, were handed down by father to son so that many centuries later, when it all seemed long forgotten, the unscrupulous could enter and cash in.

It was all relatively small scale until France and England got interested in Egypt during the Napoleonic wars. Both great nations started looking at Egypt and its ancient artefacts with an insatiable eye. The Great Plundering of Ancient Egypt had truly begun.
