Minutes of the General Meeting held on Monday 7th October 2024
Salon G.L. Teulada.
Welcome and Reminder of Safety Procedures.
Prue welcomed everyone and pointed out the safety arrangements and asked for mobile phones to be turned off or put in silent mode.
Synopsis of the last General Meeting ( June 2024)
Tony Old presented a summary of the key points from the last meeting.
He reminded everyone that the full minutes had been posted on the website.
Acceptance of these minutes was proposed by Ian Brown and seconded by Peter Griffiths. They were approved by members via a show of hands.
President’s Address.
Prue announced that the Legacy concert had raised 2150 Euros for the Make a Smile charity. She thanked Pat and Brian Clarke for running the refreshment desk.
Thanks were given to David and Eileen Haxon for organising the Picnic in the Park event which raised approximately 1000 Euros for Make a Smile – our nominated annual charity.
Sharon Taylor has stepped down from her role as Newsletter Editor after 6 years. She was thanked for all her work and presented with a gift from the U3A. Prue asked for a volunteer to take over as newsletter Editor.
Treasurer’s Report.
Annette said that the audited accounts for 2023 are available on the website. She read out a few of the highlights from the report, and afterwards the members voted to accept the audited accounts by a majority.
She gave details of the current balance in the bank account. This amount is high but large amounts will be paid out soon for Travel, Dinner Dance, Charity donation etc.
Prue said that members who were fully paid up in 2023 and renewed in 2024 received two year’s membership, and therefore did not have to pay any subscriptions in 2025. However, members who joined in 2024 would need to renew their membership in 2025, and it was proposed that the fee for this group of people and any new members in 2025 would be €10 . This was accepted by a majority vote.
Groups.
Spicy Dining – John and Elaine Ross are stepping down as group leaders at the end of the season. A volunteer is needed to take over the running of this popular group.
Prue announced the recent death of Peter Holley, the leader of the Computer Support Group. He was also a Walk Leader in the Healthy Walking Group and Brian Cummins, group leader, read out a tribute to Peter.
Travel Group.
Eileen gave an update on the 4 trips running before Christmas.
Valencia – full.
Benidorm Palace – a 2nd coach is now needed.
La Zenia – nearly full.
Madrid – 2 places available.
She reminded everyone that details of all trips are on the website.
Social Events.
Tony Old thanked Coral Guise-Smith for organising the Christmas Ball which will take place on 13th December. Bookings are now being taken.
A Hog Roast is planned at Font Santa on 6th June next year.
Membership Liaison.
Dennis Ainscough had nothing to report.
Any Other Business.
Eileen Haxon announced that the next charity quiz will take place at Casa Lili on 4th November. There is only one table left.
Colin Donadio appealed for helpers at The Art and History group talks in La Senieta.
Prue informed members that cameras are being installed by the waste bins in Teulada Moraira. People dumping large and prohibited items are likely to be prosecuted.

The general meeting was followed by a presentation on tax and financial planning by Nicola Sandler from Chase Buchanan.
The meeting closed at 11.30 and the next meeting will be a coffee morning on November 4th at Ifach Golf Club.
